Helping The Community: 2015 Angel Tree Adopt-a-Family

With the holiday season in full swing and Christmas break fast approaching, team members at Avant Healthcare recently took time out of their busy schedules to give back. Each year, we host an Adopt-a-Family campaign we call Angel Tree to help families in need across the Indianapolis area. A tree in our break room is decorated with tags, all labeled with a gift for someone less fortunate.

2015 has been an incredible year of growth for us, so we decided to raise our outreach goals in order to really give back to our community. We partnered with a social worker from Indianapolis Public Schools to sponsor five large families—30 parents, kids, and grandparents who were in need of a happy holiday. Back in 2014, we sponsored two families and were able to deliver more than 80 presents. We blew that number away this year.

Our team members opened their hearts to our adopted families and wildly surpassed my already high expectations. We received more than 280 presents and $600+ in gift cards for gas and groceries to deliver to the families in need. In addition to bringing in gifts they purchased themselves, members of our corporate community made enough cash donations to give each family another $50 grocery gift card. We were also asked to donate available toiletries and even furniture—requests that the Avant Healthcare family took to heart.

For the last 2 weeks, our break room has been overflowing with toys and clothes, shampoo and diapers, all waiting to be delivered. It was overwhelming to walk in and see the physical representations of our company’s generosity. This was my second year leading the Angel Tree campaign, and at first I was hesitant to sponsor so many families. Would we be able to meet such high goals? I didn’t want to leave any family without gifts.

I shouldn’t have worried. Angel Tree is one of our cornerstone community outreach campaigns, and I am completely blown away at the generosity of my coworkers. Our office was buzzing with excitement the last few weeks, and the feelings are contagious. We feel grateful to work for a company that cares about the community and allows its employees to give back in such an impactful way.
