THE SPARE BEDROOM THAT NEVER STOPPED GROWING
A lot has changed since founder and CEO Deborah Wood started our company from a spare bedroom in her home in 1994. Back then we were a one-person show, a medical education company setting the scene for vibrant dialogue among HCPs to learn about advances in patient care.
Now, after a few name tweaks and office moves, we’re a full-service medical communications agency with hundreds of staff in locations across the United States. Through it all, we’ve held true to the belief that what we do, what our clients do, and the patients we do it for truly matter.
And we’ve noticed two things: our very first client is still our client and, whether it’s through impactful content, optimized KOL relationships, or intricately crafted education experiences, we’re still educating and engaging HCPs.

Named after our parent company, DWA Healthcare Communications Group, DWA CARES was established as a vehicle for employees to donate time, their talents, or funds toward supporting the charitable, research, education, and social support organizations they hold dear. THE GOLDEN TICKET HELPS COLLEAGUES SUPPORT CAUSES
The Golden Ticket program is our company’s way of giving each other additional means to “pay it forward.” “Golden Ticket” funds are provided to a random staff member at different points throughout the year with the hope that they will do more than just give that money directly to a cause or charity. Executive Director Nikki Snodgrass shares the story of how she used the Golden Ticket.
I received the golden ticket when a family member had just gone through a near death experience with her son Max who was in a horrible motor bike accident.
This was the headline: “Michigan boy survives motorbike accident thanks to high-risk surgery performed at U of M” with the sub-headline: Surgeons at CS Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor remove boy’s liver to perform operation that no one has survived before.
Max’s operation lasted 10 hours and required 50 units of blood. Doctors had to remove Max’s liver, repair it, and then transplant it back into his body. This is the first time in the world this operation has been performed successfully for this type of injury. They called this surgery a medical miracle, but Max still came very close to dying because the hospital did not have enough blood.
In addition to donating the golden ticket money to the CS Mott Children’s Hospital I was inspired to start donating blood on a regular basis. When I shared this story with my work family there were several others who wanted to join me. We started going to donate blood every two months. We have more than made up for the amount of blood required during his initial surgery which was our initial goal.
To think – Max could have lost his life after a miracle surgery because of a shortage of blood. This inspired me to do something we all can do to help save a life!
LIMITING OUR ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT, HELPING THE EARTH
We also care about service to the planet and to future generations. Our Green Initiative is an extension of our current service to the community as we strive to reduce our environmental footprint and increase our environmental awareness.
We currently have a number of green practices in place throughout the office and are seeking to expand these efforts. We reuse materials and supplies when possible; we recycle cardboard, aluminum cans, and paper; and we properly dispose of unwanted electronics and empty toner cartridges, recycling them when possible.
